A Sabena Events teve o privilégio de ser convidada pela Metal Em Portugal para ser a repórter do Festival que organizaram na pessoa de Davi Cruz, o “Iberian Rock Fest”, que tem em vista o intercâmbio de bandas e público entre Portugal e Galiza. Estamos gratos pelo convite e reconhecimento como parceiros neste nosso panorama do underground.
Como banda de abertura do “Iberian Rock Fest” tivemos os Scream of the Soul, estes oriundos de Famalicão, que nos vieram apresentar o seu hard rock (por sinal brutal) e tendo um álbum já em carteira, referiram que estariam a preparar outro novo. Começaram logo a abrir com “The Narrator” como forma de apresentação da banda ao público presente, tanto Português como Espanhol; e que malha! Foram-se seguindo mais alguns temas, na “Heretic” o vocalista Cristiano puxou pelo público e foi em ambiente de alegria desde aí até ao final. Também tempo para nos apresentarem a “The Child” (disponível no final do artigo para visualização) que, de acordo com eles, fará parte do novo álbum que já está em fase de produção. Cristiano aqui novamente incentiva o público a fazer-se ouvir e ninguém se fez rogado, tendo a canção terminado com uma estrondosa salva de palmas. Tempo de despedidas e agradecimentos ao público e à Metal em Portugal pelo convite. Agradecemos também a Cristiano, André e Alexandre a presença animada em palco e esperamos num futuro próximo conhecer esse álbum que aí vem.
Os nossos queridos Blame Zeus que, como se sabe, são do Porto e que já contam com 2 álbuns editados foram os seguintes a entrar em palco. São uma referência no panorama nacional do rock/metal e agora também uma referência para a comunidade metaleira Espanhola. Começaram logo com “Slaughter House” para aquecer o público. Era o início de um concerto brutal que deixou os Espanhóis completamente rendidos a Blame Zeus. Como sempre deram um espetáculo hipnotizante, com a potente voz de Sandra Oliveira a ecoar pela sala de tal forma que até arrepiava. Tiveram tempo para passar por vários temas entre os quais “The Apprentice”, que teve uma excelente recepção e “headbanging” do forte e com muitos uivos (sim leram bem, uivos) no final. Claro, não poderia faltar a “Speechless” uma das grandes malhas deles. Sandra, nesta particular altura, encarnou um qualquer diabo e dançou como se não houvesse amanhã. Que prestação! O mimo da noite que esteve reservado para uma apresentação em terras Espanholas, a canção “De Já Vu”, da qual fizemos uma belíssima filmagem que podem visualizar no final do artigo. Mais uma vez, que voz e que som brutal. É sem dúvidas nenhumas a prova que em Portugal temos produção musical de excelente qualidade. Blame Zeus terminou em grande e com a promessa de um retorno a Espanha. Sandra, Paulo, Tiago, Celso e Ricardo, continuem a produzir som maravilhoso como este. Já aguardamos ansiosos o vosso próximo trabalho e obrigada por um concerto que tão cedo não esqueceremos.
Estava na altura da prata da casa e entraram em palco os Mano de Piedra, originários de Vigo e formados no final de 2016 com músicos de outras bandas da área, elementos experientes neste panorama do underground espanhol tais como Supa Scoopa, Sem Resposta, N.O.T. ou Carcomedhi. A banda é composta por Nano Gales (guitarra e vocal), David Durán (bateria e vocal principal), Fran Álvarez (baixo) e Mano García (guitarra). Consideram-se uma mistura de stoner, doom, sludge, hardcore e death'n'roll. Neste evento tivemos oportunidade de escutar em primeira mão novo trabalho, que estará para ser lançado em breve. Como forma de começar as hostilidades em palco, começaram pela malha “The Rapture” e agarraram logo a atenção do público com um pequeno pormenor; o vocalista principal era também o baterista. A malta que se juntou para ver este Festival adorou a presença deles em palco. Muito “headbanging” pelos locais e mesmo os nossos Portugueses juntaram-se à festa, havendo ali até um momento de “circle pit” à maneira mesmo que um pouco tímido. A banda passou por alguns temas mais conhecidos e tocaram também duas malhas do seu último EP, a “Madness” e a “Humans of Late Capitalism”, que se notou serem bem conhecidas do público Espanhol presente. A “Madness” tem algumas variações interessantes na voz, com um som mais próximo do stoner, com riffs típicos e reconhecíveis, mas ali com um coro a lembrar o hardcore. Com “Humans Of Late Capitalism” a vocalização é mais linear, temos um tema que lembra o death'n'roll melódico e bastante ritmado e acompanhado de um bom solo de guitarra. Encerrou-se o festival com “Storm of the Axes” num registo de absoluta brutalidade. Passa a expressão “Granda Power”. A vocês Mano de Piedra, um bem haja e gratos pela recepção e a um próximo intercâmbio em terras lusas.
Festival terminado, tempo de conhecer pessoalmente Davi Cruz, mentor deste projeto e da Metal em Portugal que, em breves palavras nos indicou estar satisfeito com o resultado e a afluência, tendo deixado no ar a possibilidade de se fazer um próximo Iberian Rock Fest, mas desta vez em Portugal. Foi, entretanto, tempo de se carregar o material e regressarmos todos a casa. Um privilégio fazer esta viagem com todos os que foram, na vinda estávamos todos felizes e satisfeitos, tivemos tempo ainda para cantorias no autocarro e muita brincadeira. Foi certamente um evento a repetir, construíram-se boas memórias e fizeram-se novos amigos além-fronteiras. E que venham mais eventos destes.

Sabena Events had the privilege to be invited by Metal Em Portugal to be the main reporter for Iberian Rock Fest, organized in the person of Davi Cruz, whose goal is to create a band exchange between Portugal and Galicia. We are grateful for the invitation and recognition has partners of our underground.
So, on February 2nd and after a quick bus ride we got to Oporto. Mário from Strike Tous was already there waiting for us (excellent professional and touring company) where all the necessary enlightenment and instructions regarding the trip were given to us. There, among with the rest of the folks heading to Vigo were our dearest Blame Zeus who welcomed us with open arms as only Oporto locals know how to. I henceforth thank you Sandra Oliveira, Blame Zeus front-woman and vocals, for all the support and help given during the trip, both to and from the festival. We quickly hit the road, got more passengers on the way, there was a lot of joy and chatting and even a contest from Strike Tours in which the prize was a t-shirt. On our arrival to Vigo we were directed to the venue, La Fábrica de Chocolate Club. Rustic bar with an appropriate rock environment.
We had Scream of the Soul, Famalicão based band, as opening act for “Iberian Rock Fest” who brought us their (in fact huge) hard rock; with an album recorded they’re now on the process of recording the sophomore. Started with “The Narrator” as a way of introducing themselves to the crowd, Portuguese and Spanish; and what a killing song! Some more songs were played afterwords and in “Heretic” vocalist Cristiano grab the audience and from that moment to the end the gig went on with a spirit of joy. Also time for them to play “The Child” (see below the video) which will be part of the next album, as they’ve mentioned. Again Cristiano stimulated the audience to make themselves heard and they responded accordingly, with the song ending with a tremendous ovation. Time now for goodbyes and thanks to the crowd and to Metal Em Portugal for the invitation. We also thank Cristiano, André and Alex the cheerful stage presence and hope to see them in a near future with the new album.
Our dearest Blame Zeus who you all know well come from Oporto and have already 2 albums released were seconds on stage. As always they gave a mesmerizing show with Sandra Oliveira’ strong voice echoing in the room and making everyone shiver. They had time to visit several tracks including “The Apprentice” which had an excellent reception and headbanging from the crowd and lots of howls (yes you read right, howls) in the end. Of course, one of their biggest songs “Speechless” couldn’t be forgotten. At this particular time Sandra sort of incarnated a devil and danced like there’s no tomorrow. What a show! The special treat for the night, the song “De Já Vu”, can be watched in the link below. Again, what a voice and such a great sound. It’s undoubtedly the proof that in Portugal we have excellent quality musical productions. Blame Zeus ended high and with the promise to return to Spain. Sandra, Paulo, Tiago, Celso and Ricardo, continue on making wonderful sounds like these. We anxiously await your next work and thank you for an unforgettable concert.
Time now for the local band to enter stage, Mano de Piedra; originated from Vigo, experienced musicians from other bands on the local underground scene such as Supa Scoopa, Sem Resposta, N.O.T. or Carcomedhi got together in late 2016. The band is composed by Nano Gales (guitar and vocals), David Durán (drums and main vocal), Fran Álvarez (bass) and Mano García (guitar). They consider themselves a mixture of stoner, doom, sludge, hardcore and death'n'roll. In this event we had the opportunity to listen first hand to their new work, to be released soon. Was a way of opening high started with “The Rapture” and immediately caught the audience’s attention due to a slight detail; the main vocal was also the drummer. The crowd that gathered in this festival loved their stage presence. Lots of headbanging by everyone, with even a short and shy circle pit. The band played some known songs and also two from their debut EP, “Madness” and “Humans of Late Capitalism”, which we could see they were well known by Spanish crowd. “Madness” has some interesting voice variations with a sonority closer to stoner, with typical recognizable riffs but with a choir resembling hardcore. In “Humans Of Late Capitalism” the vocals are more linear in a track that sounds like melodic death'n'roll, highly rhythmic and with good solo guitar. The festival ended with “Storm of the Axes” in absolute heaviness. To you Mano de Piedra, a big thank you for the reception and to a next interchange in Portuguese soil.
With the end of the festival, time now to meet Davi Cruz personally, the mentor of this project and the man behind Metal Em Portugal who, in brief words, tolds us he was happy with the result and the number of people attending, leaving the possibility to do another Iberian Rock Fest, this time in Portugal. Well, time now to load everything into the bus and head back home. It was a privilege to be part of this trip, on the way home we were all happy and satisfied and still had time to some singing in the bus and lots of fun. It was certainly an event to repeat, many good memories have been built as well as new friends abroad. Let more of this events come.
