Desde a sua génese que já começa a ser habitual todos os anos termos um novo trabalho dos Mercic. Após um período inicial em que este projecto se mantinha um pouco em “low profile”, a partir do 5º álbum a aposta passou para uma maior projecção, tendo inclusive dado o seu primeiro concerto. A atual situação do underground deixou essa nova etapa um pouco de parte mas a criatividade continua em alta com o lançamento de “Mercic_6”.
Tantos lançamentos em tão pouco tempo podem revelar-se complicados em termos de criatividade e ideias. Isso é facilmente contornável com a variada abrangência de estilos que permitem a Carlos Maldito, mentor deste projecto, fazer com que cada álbum seja uma experiência individual no meio do coletivo sonoro. Outro dos pontos de destaque deste projeto é o lirismo que aborda uma vasta panóplia de assuntos; basta escutarem “State Of Mind… Burnt” que versa sobre o estado “atual” do confinamento. Voltando à sonoridade, Carlos utiliza uma fórmula que já lhe rendeu bons resultados que é aplicar ritmos, sons e estilos pessoais assentes numa base industrial. Isso é possível não só por estar rodeado de bons músicos que já o acompanham desde o início mas também pelas colaborações que tem tido de outros que “emprestam” o tal toque pessoal às composições. É o caso do guitarrista Carlos Lichman, com quem já tinha trabalhado no anterior lançamento, que aqui dá corpo à guitarra na faixa “People Surrounded By Fear Are Easily Controlled”. Ainda no campo dos guitarristas também Nuno Pardal (Switchtense) colabora com o solo de guitarra em “Stay Away From Us”, faixa que alia raiva e irreverência com groove, ao bom estilo da banda onde milita. No baixo temos a presença de Vitor Hugo Sapage (Congruity), enquanto que Paulo Martins (This Fallen Curse) toma os comandos do sintetizador na (excelente) intro de “False Tears Over Empty Words”. O culminar das colaborações dá-se em “The Culmination Of Power With Malice = Nowadays” onde podemos escutar os vocais de Gwen Basurah, dando a esta faixa um pouco do trabalho que desenvolve em Basurah!. Este trabalho termina ao som de “Technological Progress = Human Setback”, faixa que interpreto como sendo introspectiva e de certo modo catártica do seu criador. Uma das faixas que mais gostei foi “Here We Are Again”, que começa de forma algo etérea mas depois expande-se com os seus ganchos e breakdowns numa espécie de fúria descontrolada.
Pouco mais se pode dizer deste novo trabalho, onde está explicitada a continuidade musical a que nos habituou desde o primeiro lançamento. Sem grandes variações no seu estilo principal e mantendo a coesão rítmica, “Mercic_6” é mais um passo na caminhada de um projecto que busca maior (e merecido) reconhecimento.

Since its beginning, it has become usual every year to have a new Mercic release. After an initial period in which this project remained a little "low profile", from the 5th album onwards the bet shifted to a greater projection, having even given its first concert. The current situation of the underground has left this new stage a bit aside, but creativity remains on the rise with the release of "Mercic_6".
So many releases in such a short time can prove complicated in terms of creativity and ideas. This is easily overcome with the wide range of styles that allow Carlos Maldito, mentor of this project, to make each album an individual experience in the middle of the sound collective. Another highlight of this project is the lyricism that addresses a wide range of subjects; just listen to “State Of Mind… Burnt” that talks about the “current” confinement state. Returning to sonority, Carlos uses a formula that has already yielded good results, which is to apply rhythms, sounds and personal styles based on an industrial basis. This is possible not only because he is surrounded by good musicians who have been with him since the beginning but also because of the collaborations he has had from others who “lend” such a personal touch to the compositions. This is the case of guitarist Carlos Lichman, with whom he had already worked on the previous release, here giving body to the guitar on the track “People Surrounded By Fear Are Easily Controlled”. Still in the field of guitarists, Nuno Pardal (Switchtense) also collaborates with the guitar solo in “Stay Away From Us”, a track that combines anger and irreverence with groove, in the good style of the band where he plays. In the bass we have the presence of Vitor Hugo Sapage (Congruity), while Paulo Martins (This Fallen Curse) takes the commands of the synthesizer in the (excellent) intro of “False Tears Over Empty Words”. The culmination of the collaborations takes place in “The Culmination Of Power With Malice = Nowadays” where we can listen to Gwen Basurah's vocals, giving this track a little bit of the work he develops in Basurah!. This work ends with the sound of “Technological Progress = Human Setback”, a track that I interpret as being introspective and somewhat cathartic to its creator. One of the tracks I liked the most was “Here We Are Again”, which starts off in an ethereal way but then expands with its hooks and breakdowns in a kind of uncontrolled fury.
Little more can be said about this new work, which explains the musical continuity to which we have become accustomed since the first release. Without major variations in its main style and maintaining rhythmic cohesion, “Mercic_6” is another step in the path of a project that seeks greater (and deserved) recognition.
