Neste passado dia 15 de dezembro o RCA Club em Lisboa abriu as suas portas para o lançamento do álbum de estreia dos Moonshade “Sun Dethroned”, tendo sido também convidadas as bandas Dark Oath e os Lvnae Lvmen para abertura do concerto. A próxima apresentação do álbum será no dia 22 de Dezembro no Metalpoint no Porto.
Após a usual mudança de palco para a atuação da banda seguinte, vindos de Coimbra subiram ao palco os Dark Oath para o que seria a sua segunda vez no palco do RCA. Novamente questões técnicas fizeram demorar um pouco a sua atuação mas fomos recompensados com um concerto brilhante por parte de toda a banda.
A banda de death metal melódico formada por Sara Leitão nos vocais, Joël Martins e Sérgio Pinheiro nas guitarras, Afonso Aguiar no baixo e Tiago Correia na bateria começou por apresentar “Land of Ours”, uma malha de ritmos melódicos que assenta perfeitamente na atmosfera da performance que nos trazem para o palco. Mais uma vez a banda toda dá tudo de si em palco, com grandes performances e brutais “headbangings”, mas a Sara Leitão tem realmente um poderio na voz que comanda toda a atuação. O concerto seguiu depois com “The Tree of Life” que se tem tornando na faixa porta-estandarte da banda. Fomos brindados com “Watchman of Gods” e a cover “If I Had a Earth” da série “Vikings”, tendo terminado a sua atuação com “A Thousand Beasts”. Esta banda em palco demonstra uma tal energia com a sua prestação que acredito plenamente que saem dali exaustos, mas felizes. Se nunca foram ver um concerto dêem-lhes hipótese, não se arrependerão. Terminaram a sua atuação agradecendo imenso aos Moonshade e a todos os envolvidos pelo convite para tocarem no RCA, deixando a dica para os irem ver ou rever no próximo dia 22 de Dezembro ao Metalpoint, no Porto.
Finalmente a sala devidamente cheia e ansiosa pela atuação dos Moonshade, banda que se apresenta vinda da nossa Invicta cidade do Porto, e que é constituída por Ricardo Pereira nos vocais e líricas, Pedro Quelhas e Daniel Laureano nas guitarras, Nuno Barbosa no baixo e Sandro Rodrigues na bateria. Na breve apresentação da banda Ricardo Pereira referiu que estariam também pela segunda vez no RCA Club onde teriam estado sensivelmente há dois anos para outro concerto, mas que hoje estariam ali por mérito próprio para a apresentação do seu álbum de estreia “Sun Dethroned” álbum este que já teve review feita pela Metal em Portugal (ler aqui). A banda referiu que iriam apresentar o álbum na íntegra de modo a contarem a história completa de “Sun Dethroned”. Para esta apresentação trouxeram-nos uma surpresa, neste caso através de Ricardo Pereira que entrou de forma dramática em palco personificando “The God Of Nothingness”, uma das personagens da história contada no álbum e também o tema inicial do mesmo. Foi um gesto carregado de simbolismo e que deu embalo a toda uma performance brutal por parte de toda a banda, para gáudio do público presente. De forma rápida, foram então tocados os seguintes temas do álbum: “The Flames That Forged Us”, “Lenore”, “Sun Dethroned”, “Upon Your Ashes”, “World Torn Asunder”, “Eventide” e “A Dreamless Slumber”. Mesmo não sendo usual as bandas colocarem em palco todo o seu álbum de um só fôlego, neste caso o risco que tomaram produziu efeitos, tendo sido contada em palco a história do “Deus do Nada” e “Lenore” uma história de amor que termina em tragédia. Toda a performance da banda foi nesse sentido; com eles passámos de um estado de euforia para um estado de desgosto e no fim para uma melancolia e declínio emocional. Evidentemente não posso deixar de referir que apesar de toda a banda atuar de forma brilhante e com uma técnica irrepreensível, Ricardo mostrou que personifica de forma maravilhosa o “Deus do Nada”, tendo até eu a determinada altura o questionado se a sua vocalização e atuação se repercutiríam em palco e ao vivo, ao qual me respondeu que sim, que manteria este mesmo registo e realmente não desapontou em nada. Toda a emoção que está na produção de estúdio está na sua performance ao vivo. Realmente um grande executante, contagiou-nos com todo o leque de emoções que demonstrou através dos temas desde alegria, euforia, raiva a desgosto/tristeza. Destaque para o tema “The Flame That Forged Us” com especial incitamento de Ricardo para que todos nós acompanhássemos com “Ei” e que erguesse-mos os braços no ar ao que todos aquiescemos, tendo naquele momento nos tornado parte da história. O tema “Lenore” foi recebido por parte do público com um carinho especial e todos nós acompanhamos a banda nesta malha melódica e de começo vocal num registo calmo que depois explode num frenesim de emoções, onde mais uma vez o nosso vocalista mostrou que sabe contar uma história de forma cantada e com um leque de emoções bem vincados, tendo também os “backing vocals” do resto da banda contribuído para aquela sensação etérea que é contar a história de “Lenore” , tendo os mesmos recebido uma enorme ovação no final da canção. Ao longo do concerto foram várias as vezes que o público reagiu com enorme energia e “headbanging” a roçar o furioso. Esta história emocionante terminou com “A Dreamless Slumber”, mas mesmo assim o público pediu mais. E a banda aceitou novamente regressar, apesar de nem terem saído do palco, tendo o nosso vocalista referido que fazia de conta que se tinham retirado de palco (momento cómico da noite para a banda e para o público). Momento então para nos apresentarem os dois últimos temas da noite: “Blindness”, do primeiro EP “The Path Of Redemption” e posteriormente o tema “Goddess Eternal” do segundo EP “Dream /Oblivion”. Este tema despoletou uma descarga de adrenalina por parte de Ricardo e do público tendo o nosso vocalista terminado a sua prestação em palco a ser levado em braços pelo pessoal através da sala do RCA. Final mais que merecido para um concerto que ficará na memória de muitos, eu incluída e já a pensar no próximo concerto….
Aproveitando a vinda a Lisboa a Metal em Portugal teve a oportunidade de se sentar um pouco à mesa, à conversa com a banda, tendo sido a mesma representada por Daniel Laureano que gentilmente aceitou dispensar alguns minutos para responder a uma perguntas. With a room well filled by now and after a short delay due to technical problems, the band Lvnae Lvmen lead by charismatic Sérgio Páscoa, accompanied by Alejandro Santos and Zé Pedro on the guitars, Diogo Silva on the bass and Francisco Marques on the drums, rose on stage. Despite this slight setback the band showed their good mood and will to fill us with histories about their songs. Lvnae Lvmen as an unique sonority, a mixture of death/black metal with a bit of folk besides the use of mandolin, this one played by Sérgio. The show started with “Death or Glory”; afterwards they presented the song “As Queimadas” with poems by Mário Beirão, a poet from Beja. Taking advantage of the rather lengthy sound adjustments and before presenting the following song, we had the chance to listen to Sérgio telling the history behind the song and the band’s origin. He told us it was originally founded in Beja around 2011 with a comeback in 2018 after a long absence, taking the chance to remind other great bands originated there and sending best wishes to fellow countrymen Hochiminh, also asking a big round of applause to them which was greatly corresponded by the audience. Small aside: coincidentally by the time I was writing these review Hochiminh announced being in studio to record some new songs for their next EP...amigos, heavy stuff on the way! Returning to the concert; next song was “Nebura Horrenda” dedicated to Portuguese King Dom Sebastião and inspired in old folk songbook. Although all the band gives its best for stage performance, Sérgio has an enormous stage posture and brutal vocals that captivate all the attentions. After this performance they give us “Forgotten Sacrifice”, having the name of the song been several times repeated to me by Sérgio so I wouldn't miss it in my review (funny moment of the night for me). Afterwards they played “In Your Name You Shall Fall” with an outstanding performance as it should be. Their last song for the night was an absolute premiere for the band. To privilege of the ones attending that sang “The Punishment of 1531” when by several times we were incited to Google about it. The slight research I’ve made points to Lisbon’s great earthquake that took place in 1531, pointed out by Garcia de Resende in his work “Miscelânea”, right? Because the bands gets inspired by old songbooks I assume it was it (please correct me if I’m wrong). Thus we came to the end of the concert and are now waiting in expectation for the next one.

Mesmo não sendo usual as bandas colocarem em palco todo o seu álbum de um só fôlego, neste caso o risco que tomaram produziu efeitos, tendo sido contada em palco a história do “Deus do Nada” e “Lenore” uma história de amor que termina em tragédia. Toda a performance da banda foi nesse sentido; com eles passámos de um estado de euforia para um estado de desgosto e no fim para uma melancolia e declínio emocional. Evidentemente não posso deixar de referir que apesar de toda a banda atuar de forma brilhante e com uma técnica irrepreensível, Ricardo mostrou que personifica de forma maravilhosa o “Deus do Nada”, tendo até eu a determinada altura o questionado se a sua vocalização e atuação se repercutiríam em palco e ao vivo, ao qual me respondeu que sim, que manteria este mesmo registo e realmente não desapontou em nada. Toda a emoção que está na produção de estúdio está na sua performance ao vivo. Realmente um grande executante, contagiou-nos com todo o leque de emoções que demonstrou através dos temas desde alegria, euforia, raiva a desgosto/tristeza. Destaque para o tema “The Flame That Forged Us” com especial incitamento de Ricardo para que todos nós acompanhássemos com “Ei” e que erguesse-mos os braços no ar ao que todos aquiescemos, tendo naquele momento nos tornado parte da história. O tema “Lenore” foi recebido por parte do público com um carinho especial e todos nós acompanhamos a banda nesta malha melódica e de começo vocal num registo calmo que depois explode num frenesim de emoções, onde mais uma vez o nosso vocalista mostrou que sabe contar uma história de forma cantada e com um leque de emoções bem vincados, tendo também os “backing vocals” do resto da banda contribuído para aquela sensação etérea que é contar a história de “Lenore” , tendo os mesmos recebido uma enorme ovação no final da canção. Foi com todo o gosto que estivemos presentes para apoiar o que de melhor se faz em Portugal, sendo esta banda evidentemente uma das nossas gemas de death metal melódico. Terão certamente um futuro brilhante à sua frente e ficaremos à espera de mais lindas obras por parte deles. Os Moonshade terminaram a noite agradecendo efusivamente ao público presente, ao RCA, aos Lvnae Lvmen, aos Dark Oath e à Stone Crow. Só temos a dizer obrigado nós! Por nos presentearem com este concerto memorável e fazerem a música que fazem.

After the usual stage change for the following band, from Coimbra Dark Oath that got on stage for what would be their second time ever at RCA. Again technical difficulties delayed their gig a bit but we were rewarded with a brilliant concert by the band.
The melodic death metal band consisting in Sara Leitão on the vocals, Joël Martins and Sérgio Pinheiro on the guitars, Afonso Aguiar on the bass and Tiago Correia on the drums started by playing “Land of Ours”, a song with melodic rhythms that fits perfectly in the atmosphere their performance brings to the stage. Once again the band leaves everything of themselves on stage, with great performances and brutal headbanging, but Sara Leitão really has a strong voice that commands all. The concert went afterwards with “The Tree of Life” that has become the band’s flagship. We were praised with “Watchman of Gods” and a cover for “Viking” series song “If I Had a Earth”, ending their gig with “A Thousand Beasts”. On stage, this band shows such an energy that I truly believe they leave the stage totally exhausted but happy. If you have never went to a Dark Oath’s gig give them a chance, you won’t regret it. They’ve finished thanking Moonshade and all the ones involved for the invitation to play at RCA, leaving the hint to see them again next December 22nd at Metalpoint, Oporto.

For this presentation they brought us a surprise, in this cause through Ricardo who entered on stage in a dramatic way personifying “The God Of Nothingness”, one of the characters taken from the story behind the album as well as the first track. It was a very symbolic gesture that shook up the band’s performance, delighting the ones attending. Quickly speaking, the following songs were played: “The Flames That Forged Us”, “Lenore”, “Sun Dethroned”, “Upon Your Ashes”, “World Torn Asunder”, “Eventide” and “A Dreamless Slumber”. Even not being usual for bands to play entire albums in one gig, in this case the risk made it possible to tell the tragic love story of the “The God Of Nothingness” and “Lenore”. All the band performance was put into it; with them we went from a stage of euphoria to grieve and in the end to melancholia and emotional decline. I can’t obviously left unmentioned that although all the band played brilliantly and with remarkable technique, Ricardo showed we personified marvelously “The God Of Nothingness”, being even I at some point to question if his voice and acting would repercut live the same way they sounded on the CD, to which he confirmed yes and in any way disappointing. All the emotion put on the studio version can be felt live. Really a great performer who contagious all with the mix of emotions he showed in his songs going from happiness, euphoria, rage and grief/sadness. Highlight for the song “The Flame That Forged Us” with special incitement by Ricardo so all of us could sing along with “Ei” and raise our arms high to which we indulged, becoming in that moment ourselves part of the history. Song “Lenore” was received by the audience with special affection and all accompanied the band in this melodic track that starts calmly before bursting in an emotional frenzy, where once more our vocalist knew how to sing a story with distinctive emotions, with the help of the backing vocals to help tell the ethereal story of “Lenore”, ending under a great ovation. Throughout the concert several were the times when the audience reacted effusively and with “furious” headbanging. This emotional story ended with “A Dreamless Slumber” but even so the crowd asked for more. The band accepted to return even if they haven’t really left the stage, with Ricardo pretending to leave and return (comic moment for the band and the crowd). Time now for them to sing us the last couple of songs for the evening, “Blindness” taken from first EP “The Path Of Redemption” and afterwards the song “Goddess Eternal” from second EP “Dream /Oblivion”. It was with great pleasure that we attended the gig to support what best is done in Portugal, being this evidently one of our gems regarding melodic death metal. They’ll surely have a bright future ahead and we’ll be waiting for more beautiful works such as this. Moonshade ended the evening effusive greeting the audience, RCA, Lvnae Lvmen, Dark Oath and Stone Crow. We just have to say thank you! For giving us such a memorable gig and for doing music like they do.
