After a great gig last 15th at RCA Club, yesterday was the time to Metalpoint welcome Moonshade for a “Sun Dethroned” presentation gig; with them came Dark Oath and Secret Chord.
Arrived from Coimbra, Secret Chord are a symphonic metal quintet that is preparing a debut album, the EP “Dimensions Of A Dream” successor. Beginning a little bit shaky (couldn’t tell if Raquel Subtil’s voice wouldn’t rise high enough or if the instruments were too loud), they showed that are a band to be taken into consideration. Besides playing the 4 tracks of the EP played some new songs that will be part of that new work, one of them being a well made cover for Madredeus’ “Pastor”, with Raquel showing its true value in the vocals.
Also from Coimbra came Dark Oath who gave a good concert as they did last weekend. Music set-list was the same as the one used at RCA, around "When Fire Engulfs The Earth" to what they’ve added a cover for “Viking”’ series song “If I Had A Earth”. The band is having a good phase; besides playing this year at some of the most important stages in the national scene, they’ve recently debuted outdoors and have also being invited to accompany other band’s releases (now Moonshade and before Dallian). Let’s see if 2019 will bring a pause in live acting so they can dedicate some time to the successor…
Now with the venue completely full was time to see Moonshade present “Sun Dethroned”. More than an album, this work tells a story so I was curious to see how it would work live. Ricardo Pereira entered the stage incarnating one of the characters, the “God Of Nothingness” and throughout is performance we was “acting” which helped to pass to the audience what was expressed on the lyrics. Obviously the music alignment had to be kept so the story would make sense, ending the gig with two songs taken from their previous EP’s, “Blindness” and “Goddess Eternal” and with Ricardo being pulled to a final crowd surfing.
Moonshade presented a quality release in an event equally reciprocated by the audience who attended and cheered along with the band. This is the just reward for the work presented which makes the bands to do more and better. Congratulations to all the parties involved and a special thank you to Moonshade.
