Nekhrah - Cosmic Apostasy

Apesar de apenas terem adotado a nova designação em 2015, os Cipriotas Nekhrah já existem desde 2011 (à altura chamavam-se Impalement) tendo apenas lançado 3 faixas em formato digital. Em 2017 avançam então para o álbum de estreia “Cosmic Apostasy”.

Com um lirismo que versa sobre a misantropia, a autodestruição e cataclismos, a banda pratica um death metal extremo próximo do death/grind mas também da vertente mais thrash. Aliás, o que de imediato mais me atraiu na sua sonoridade foi a guitarra, instrumento que assume papel preponderante na estrutura da banda, quer seja nos solos, nos riffs ou no simples desenrolar das músicas e cuja presença não é abafada mesmo quando debaixo da barragem da bateria ou dos gritos/grunhidos de A. Aliás, as cordas destacam-se em todo o coletivo, também o baixo soa bem e na altura certa. As 8 faixas revelam-se coesas e estruturalmente bem equilibradas entre peso e harmonia, soando de forma a que não se tornem cansativas ou muito repetitivas.

Os Nekhrah apresentam um trabalho que mistura algumas vertentes do metal extremo e cujo resultado são músicas não muito díspares apesar de todas as influências, mantendo uma linha sonora equilibrada entre peso, técnica e groove. Apesar do vazio do nome (nota: “Nekhrah” é um anglicismo que deriva do Grego “Νέκρα”, que significa “Morte”, “Vazio”), a banda mostra-se cheia de vitalidade e com boas perspectivas de poder singrar na cena.

Although only in 2015 Cyprus based band Nekhrah had adopted their name, they exist since 2011 (before were named Impalement) having released only 3 tracks in digital support. In 2017 they go for the debut album “Cosmic Apostasy”.

With lyrics speaking about misanthropy, self-destruction and cataclysms, the band plays an extreme death metal closer to death/grind but also with a thrash approach. In fact, what immediately caught my attention in their sonority was the guitar, instrument that has a lead role in the band structure, whether in the solos, the riffs or simply in the development of the songs and whose presence isn’t muffled even when under the drum’s barrage or A's screamed/grunted vocals. Moreover, the string instruments highlight among the collective with the bass also sounding well and at the right time. The album’s 8 tracks reveal to be cohesive and structurally well balanced in terms of weight and harmony, sound in a way that don’t become exhausting or too repetitive.

Nekhrah present a work that mixes several extreme metal branches whose result are songs who are not too uneven despite all the influences, maintaining a balanced sonorous line between weight, technique and groove. Despite the emptiness of the name (note: "Nekhrah" is an Anglicism version of the Greek word “Νέκρα” which means Death/Emptiness in Greek), the band reveals to be full of vitality and with good perspectives to be successful in the scene.
