O bar Woodstock 69 foi o local escolhido para o regresso dos The Fuzz Dogz ao Porto, desta vez para apresentarem o seu trabalho de estreia “Basement Blues Pt.1”.
A banda local escolhida para apadrinhar este regresso foram os Sugiru. Devo confessar que era um projecto desconhecido para mim mas em boa hora me foi sugerido o seu contacto para este evento. Rock musculado, instrumentalmente bem tocado e cantado em Português e Inglês, com uma front-woman que para além de simpatia e presença de palco tem um registo vocal digno de destaque. Recentemente terminaram as gravações daquele que será o seu álbum de estreia e que, pela mostra que deram, podemos esperar um trabalho de grande nível. De Viseu vieram os Shutter Down, uma banda já bem conhecida do público Português. Na bagagem trouxeram o seu “Awake” com malhas como “The Edge Of Domination”, “Gone” ou “Black Jeans”, para além de 2 covers: um medley dos Led Zeppelin com as músicas "Heartbreaker", "Whole Lotta Love" e "Stairway To Heaven" e “Fear Of The Dark” dos Iron Maiden. Como sempre Sérgio mostrou-se um front-man enérgico e comunicativo com o público, cantando praticamente o concerto todo muito próximo deste. Marco e Pedro já têm um background sólido no underground Nacional e este duo The Fuzz Dogz é mais um marco na carreira deles. Desde o primeiro concerto que os vi (e foi também o primeiro concerto da banda) ficou logo a vontade de os rever, por isso foi com enorme prazer que colaborei neste regresso deles ao Porto para apresentação do álbum de estreia. Tocado na íntegra, os 8 temas de “Basement Blues Pt.1” encantaram os presentes ao mesmo tempo que souberam a pouco; poderiam ter tocado 2 vezes o álbum que ninguém iria reclamar. Rock/blues tocado com mestria e sentimento, levando a que alguns dos presentes esboçassem expressões de admiração pelo [bom] ruído que vinha do palco.
A noite de 16 de Março ficará marcada como um serão de muito bom rock, onde se pode mais uma vez comprovar que o rock Português está bem e recomenda-se: os Sugiru afirmam-se como banda com muita qualidade, os Shutter Down continuam a debitar bom som e os The Fuzz Dogz reclamam para si um lugar ao Sol na cena rock/blues. Woodstock 69 bar was the chosen place to welcome The Fuzz Dogz return to Oporto, this time to present their debut work “Basement Blues Pt.1”.
The local band chosen to sponsor this return were Sugiru. I must confess this was an unknown project to me but in good time it was suggested to play at this event. Muscled rock, instrumental well executed and sang both in Portuguese and English, with a front-woman who besides her friendliness and stage presence also has a remarkable voice. The band recently finished recording what will be their debut album and looking to what they’ve shown here, we can surely expect a high quality work. From Viseu came Shutter Down, a well known band by Portuguese audience. In their luggage was “Awake” with songs such as “The Edge Of Domination”, “Gone” or “Black Jeans”, besides playing 2 covers: a Led Zeppelin medley with the songs "Heartbreaker", "Whole Lotta Love" and "Stairway To Heaven" and Iron Maiden’s “Fear Of The Dark”. As always Sérgio proved to be an energetic and very talkative front-man with the audience, singing almost the entire gig very close to them. Marco and Pedro already have a large and solid background in National underground and this duo The Fuzz Dogz is another milestone in their career. Since first time I saw them (which was also their debut gig) I immediately got the urge to see them again, so it was a pleasure for me to be part of their return to Oporto to present the debut album. Played entirely, “Basement Blues Pt.1” 8 tracks delighted the ones attending at the same time sounding scarce; they could have played the album twice and no one would complain. Rock/blues played with finesse and feeling, making some of the folks to draw awe expressions due to the [good] noise that came from the stage.
March 16th night will be remembered as an evening with lots of good rock, where we can once more prove that Portuguese rock is well and recommended: Sugiru assume themselves as a quality band, Shutter Down keep on playing good sounds and The Fuzz Dogz claim to themselves a place in the Sun in the rock/blues scene.
