Ainda as portas não tinham aberto e já novo contratempo era anunciado pela organização. Os Franceses Dagoba tiveram de cancelar a sua atuação devido à greve dos controladores aéreos Franceses, garantindo desde já a sua presença no próximo ano. Dado a imprevisibilidade do acontecimento foi impossível arranjar banda substituta pelo que a opção escolhida foi de acertos nos horários. O início foi dado ao som dos Lost In Pain, banda Luxemburguesa mas cujo frontman é Português e não se escusou a demonstrar a sua felicidade por se estrear em Portugal com a sua banda. Esta foi a primeira de uma mini tournée onde tiveram oportunidade de mostrar “Gold Hunters”, novo trabalho da banda; fica a sugestão para quem não conhece, escutem que vale a pena. Os Espanhóis Wicked Inc. até podiam não soar muito bem mas só pelo facto de Toni Camarero entrar em palco com a bandeira Portuguesa pelas costas garantiu-lhes logo fortes aplausos. Apesar de recente como banda, a verdade é que os seus membros transitaram quase todos dos Exodia; a preparar novo trabalho para sair brevemente, aproveitaram a oportunidade para mostrar 2 temas que vão figurar nele. Uma semana antes já tínhamos visto a atuação dos Simbiose no Lord Metal Fest pelo que já prevíamos mais uma tarde animada ao ritmo do punk/grind/crust desta banda Lisboeta. Ao som de “Total Descontrolo” deu-se início à descarga de malhas como “Buried Alive”, “Ignorância Colectiva” ou “Acabou A Crise, Começou A Miséria!”, que levaram a uma espiral de circle pits. Novo regresso de Pedro Dias ao palco, desta vez nas vocais dos Gwydion; com novo trabalho “Thirteen” lançado em Junho, destaque para os temas “Shield Maiden's Cry” e “Thirteen Days”, este último contando igualmente com a colaboração de Muffy. Depois de uma (provavelmente a maior) wall of death e de um bom concerto e animado, terminaram ao som de “Triskelion Horde Is Nigh”. Os Suíços Bölzer estrearam-se em Portugal com um concerto que vai certamente ficar na memória de muitos. Com uma presença de palco minimalista e uma abordagem direta e simples à sua música, KzR e HzR debitaram uma sonoridade eletrizante e poderosa; uma banda a escutar em casa, com mais atenção. Também de regresso a Vagos após a sua passagem em 2013, os Finlandeses Sonata Arctica desta vez desiludiram-me um pouco, muito por culpa da setlist que apresentaram. A meu ver, apesar de serem uma banda com uma vertente mais melódica e romântica no power metal, apresentaram algum peso e ritmo nos primeiros trabalhos que nos mais recentes parecem não existir. Talvez por isso (e apesar de terem tocado temas como “The Last Amazing Grays” ou “Fullmoon”) a necessidade de tocarem os mais recentes deixou-me essa sensação de algum vazio em relação ao concerto anterior. Apesar de no início deste ano terem atuado cá, os Carach Angren conseguiram juntar em frente ao seu palco um grande número de pessoas. Seja para os rever ou para uma estreia (como no meu caso), rapidamente percebi o porquê de tanta excitação em torno do concerto deles. Prestação exemplar em palco, perfeita comunhão com o público e cenário bem conseguido acabaram por tornar este no melhor (pelo menos na minha opinião) concerto desta edição. Outra banda que tinha muita curiosidade em ver mas que, ao mesmo tempo, me provocava algum receio, os Kamelot. Também uma estreia para mim (não consegui estar presente na edição de 2010) o meu receio prendia-se com a voz e presença de Tommy Karevik por oposição à idealização que tinha da banda ainda com Roy Khan. Rapidamente percebi que os receios eram infundados pois para além de terem timbres de voz parecidos, o à-vontade e alegria de Tommy em palco são fantásticos. Ao contrário dos Sonata Arctica, escolheram muito bem a setlist que fez um apanhado da história dos Kamelot. Outro ponto interessante foi a inclusão da voz feminina de Lauren Hart (Once Human) para os duetos; timbre excelente nos agudos e ao mesmo tempo poderosa nos guturais. A par com Carach Angren foram os melhores do dia e dos melhores do evento. Também de regresso a Vagos, os Noruegueses Enslaved optaram não por um destaque maior ao seu último “E” mas antes apresentaram uma setlist mais diversificada que continha vários momentos da banda, incluindo uma pequena surpresa para o público: o tema “Svarte Vidder” que, segundo eles, foi apenas a segunda vez a ser tocado fora da Noruega. A culminar uma noite que estava a ser excelente, os Holocausto Canibal foram chamados ao palco para que o seu grind contundente sugasse toda a energia restante no público que não arredava pé. Para aqueles mais resistentes a noite só terminou com Beyond Strength, banda de tributo aos Pantera, seguida do Dj set dos Rockline Tribe.

The doors weren’t open yet and a new setback had been announced by the organization. French Dagoba had to cancel their gig due to French air controller strike, thus ensuring to be present on next year’s edition. Because of the unpredictability of the event it was impossible to get a substitute band so the solution was to rearrange schedules. The beginning was at the sound of Lost In Pain, Luxembourg based band but with a Portuguese frontman who didn’t hesitate in showing his happiness with this debut in Portugal. This was the first date of a mini tour where they had the chance to show “Gold Hunters”, band’s latest work; for those who don’t know it I leave it as a suggestion, it’s worth listening to. Spanish Wicked Inc. may even had a not so appealing sound but just because Toni Camarero got on stage wearing a Portuguese flag, that made them get a big round of applause. Although young as a band the truth is mostly all of the members came from the extinct band Exodia; preparing a new work to be released soon they took this opportunity to show 2 songs that will be a part of it. We had already seen Simbiose a week before at Lord Metal Fest so we had predicted a cheerful afternoon at the rhythm of this Lisbon based band punk/grind/crust. At the sound of “Total Descontrolo” took place a discharge of tracks such as “Buried Alive”, “Ignorância Colectiva” or “Acabou A Crise, Começou A Miséria!”, that led to a circle pit turmoil. New return of Pedro Dias to the stage, this time as lead vocal for Gwydion; with new work “Thirteen” released last June, highlight for the songs “Shield Maiden's Cry” and “Thirteen Days” with this last one having also Muffy’s collaboration on the vocals. After one (probably the biggest) wall of death and a good and lively gig, they ended with “Triskelion Horde Is Nigh”. Suisse band Bölzer debuted in Portugal with a gig that will certainly remain in the memory of some. With a minimal stage presence and a simple and direct approach to their song, KzR e HzR discharged an electric and powerful sonority; a band to listen carefully at home. Also returning to Vagos after their gig back in 2013, Finnish Sonata Arctica this time disappointed me to some extent, mainly because of the chosen setlist. In my view, although they’re a band with a more romantic and melodic approach in power metal, they showed some weight and rhythm which seems to non exist in recent ones. Maybe because of that (and despite the fact they had played songs such as “The Last Amazing Grays” or “Fullmoon”) need to play more recent songs left me a sense of emptiness regarding last gig. Although they’ve played in Portugal early this year Carach Angren managed to gather in front of the stage a great number of people. Whether to see them again or first timers (me included), rapidly new why such an excitement around their gig. Excellent performance on stage, perfect communion with the audience and well achieved scenario made it possible for this to be the best (at least in my opinion) gig for this edition. another band I was curious to see bu, at the same time, with some apprehension, Kamelot. Also a debut for me (wasn’t able to attend 2010 gig), my concern was with Tommy Karevik voice and stage presence in opposition with my idea of the band still with Roy Khan. I soon realized my fears were unjustified because the fact their vocal timbre are similar, Tommy’s easiness and joy on stage are fantastic. Unlike Sonata Arctica they chose well a setlist that summed up Kamelot’s history. Another interesting thing was the inclusion of Lauren Hart (Once Human) feminine voice for the duets; excellent timbre in the acutes and at the same time powerful growling. Along with Carach Angren were one of the best for the day and the entire event. Also returning to Vagos Norwegian band Enslaved chose not for a bigger highlight in their latest “E” but instead presented a mode diversified setlist that contained several moments of the band, including a little surprise for the audience: the song “Svarte Vidder” that, according to them, was only the second time to be played outside Norway. Ending an excellent night Holocausto Canibal were called on stage so that their poignant grind could suck the remaining energy from the crowd that stood ground. For the resistant ones the night only ended with Beyond Strength, Pantera’s tribute band followed by Rockline Tribe Dj set.
