Azagatel - SOL

Decorria o ano de 2013 quando vi pela primeira vez os Azagatel; à altura tinham lançado à pouco tempo “Lux-Citanea”, sexto trabalho da banda. A verdade é que fiquei rendido ao seu som e lirismo, maioritariamente versando sobre povos e mitos que estão na base da cultura e história do povo Português. No passado mês de Abril lançaram o seu novo trabalho, EP “SOL”. Este registo diverge um pouco da sua sonoridade habitual, apresentando-se num formato semi-acústico que confere às composições uma envolvência tribal e crua, enfatizando ainda mais a ancestralidade contida nas letras. Em relação a estas o destaque vai para a escolha da língua materna nas vocalizações de todas as músicas, uma mais-valia para a contextualização destes relatos de inspiração histórica e uma justa homenagem a um povo que se quer de queixo erguido pela sua história.

Estes bardos modernos regressam com um trabalho que merece destaque, tanto pela sua qualidade musical como pelas alterações registadas na sua sonoridade. Este tipo de abordagem musical é algo que deve ser mantido e até melhorado, podendo até mesmo levar no futuro a algo mais épico; inspiração nas lhes falta tal a riqueza cultural dos povos em que se inspiram.

It was the year 2013 when I first saw Azagatel live; at the time they had recently released their sixth album, “Lux-Citanea”. The truth is that I fell to their sound and lyrics, mainly talking about people and myths that are the base of the Portuguese history and culture. Last April they’ve released a new work, EP “SOL”. This record varies a little bit from Azagatel’s usual sonority, presenting itself in a semi-acoustic format which grants the compositions a more crude and tribal environment, emphasizing even more the ancestry contained in the lyrics. Regarding the lyrics the highlight goes to the choice of singing in native language in all songs, an added value for the contextualization of this history based tales and a joust homage to a people that one wants to be chin up for their history.

These modern bards return with a work that deserves particular emphasis, both by its musical quality as for the changes made in its sonority. This type of musical approach is something to keep and even refined, it may even lead in the future to something epic; they don’t lack inspiration such is the cultural richness of the people they get inspiration from.
